An LSMW is an automation tool for taking a file of formatted data and loading it through a background version of the SAP Gui into the DB. Therefore, you make a recording of your actions manually doing a single iteration of the operations that you want to do. LSMW then provides you with a data template. You fill out all of the iterations that you need done and hand it over to the LSMW that you have created. It then pipes it all into SAP. eCAT works similarly. An ABAPer could create you a BDC if you need even more control than allowed by LSMW or eCAT. They have extremely strict requirements. An ABAPer could also produce an upload via BAPI. Very painful for the ABAPer, but provided as SAP's standard for uploads. Some people even use the EDI/IDoc interface to do uploads... Neal
