In the past I have used this particular field for an internal grouping and written a custom report to use it. It doesn't show up in any standard reports that I know of. The external material group is designed to work with external systems, but these may not exist for the user. I believe a material master field can be "repurposed" if there is absolutely no possibility that a field will ever be used for its designed purpose in the particular SAP instance. Determining this does require some indepth knowledge of the material master.

The SAP description mentions: ===== External Material Group Key that you can use to assign the material to an external material group or to a material group determined according to external systematic. Examples For example, you can store the CCG material group or Nielsen material group here. ===== Elso for external data synchronization purposes like GS1, 1SYNC etc etc this field is generally used to fill with the Global Product Classification. It might be a better idea to use the product hierarchy for your the idea you are having. Product hierarchy is an internal matter. | | __.____._ Copyright © 2011 Toolbox.com and message author.
