Rants and Rumbles for SAP TechEd

Rants and Rumbles for SAP TechEd
SAP Mentor and mega-contributor Michelle Crapo recently ranted against SAP professionals who say, "I already know everything to do my job, and do it well … I don't need to learn anything more."

Michelle provides lots of compelling reasons why this might not be your best career strategy. Besides, she says, learning new stuff is exciting. "That's what keeps me going every day." Michelle feels strongly that "SAP TechEd is THE EVENT … for anyone who wants to learn about SAP."

Indeed, most of SDN Community's hottest topic areas are there. Look inside the SAP TechEd Session Catalog. Whole tracks and sub-tracks include Mobile enablement, In-memory database, cloud computing and tools for developing cloud apps. Once again, SAP TechEd is a great opportunity to dig in, learn, and expand your knowledge.

Mentor and Platinum contributor Tammy Powlas shares the enthusiasm in her recent blog, "It's not about marketing." Be sure to watch the video and find out why Tammy "simply can't wait" to attend SAP TechEd Las Vegas.

The upcoming SAP TechEd's are truly learning playgrounds where you can meet experts like Michelle and Tammy, share your stories and experiences, and learn new stuff.

Sincerely,

Keith Elliott
Editor-in-Chief

  1. Value of SUP Notifications

Managed object approaches provide significant benefits to developers by eliminating the amount of code they have to write. In this blog, Stan Stadelman describes how SUP's Object API provides the client-side data management functionality. Then read SUP Notifications vs. Credentials, where Ivan Mirisola covers how he participated on a proof of concept using Sybase Mobile Workflow for Business Suite. In Part 1, he covers the background notification issues he faced during the project. In Part 2, he covers sending general DCN requests and how they differ from a DCN workflow request.

  2. How to Apply Custom Branding Using the Ajax Framework L-Shape APIs

This guide provides an overview about customizing your own Ajax framework page using the L-Shape APIs of SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.3. Based on Ajax technology, this framework page provides improved performance, enhanced user experience, and a set of client side-based APIs. Then, check out Thomas Hensel's blog for tips and tricks and the 10 valuable lessons learned from the SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.3 ramp-up.

  3. Architecting an SAP Upgrade and Unicode Conversion

In this five-part blog series, Chris Kernaghan of Capgemini covers upgrades and Unicode conversions on multi-terabyte SAP Systems. In Part 1, he details the work. Part 2 covers the challenges and the solutions implemented during the program. Part 3 highlights the need for Proof of Concept (PoC) tests. Part 4 is focused on the first trial cutover, while Part 5 details some of the analysis you can do to tune your upgrade and Unicode processes.

  4. Developing a Learning Culture in Your SAP Tech Team

In this two-part blog by John Moy of the Australian Postal Corporation, he examines the culture of learning within an organization. In Part 1, Moy describes the challenge of reinvigorating an SAP technology team. In Part 2, he outlines the most successful aspects of confronting this challenge, including the use of knowledge building sessions.

  5. Jive 5 and SCN: The Right Content to the Right Person at the Right Time

In his last blog, Mark Yolton announced the plans to migrate the core of the SCN social media platform to the Jive Social Business System. Jive recently announced that its version 5 is now generally available (GA). One of the coolest new aspects of Jive 5 is that it will fundamentally add value to your SCN experience – in much the same way that other familiar social networks, like Facebook and Twitter and Google+, do today.

  6. ABAP Debugger Breakpoints and Watchpoints

In this blog, Olga Dolinkskaja defines how SAP NetWeaver 7.0 EHP2 brings an expanded set of breakpoint and watchpoint capabilities as well as a new higher-resolution statement debugging capability in the New ABAP Debugger. She also explains how you can separately debug multiple ABAP statements or expressions in one line.
