Reply from rod ayers on Feb 22 at 2:54 PM I would not mix the 2- either you want to consider dependant requirements or you do not want to consider them. PD works best when demand varies from end items or higher levels, ROP works well in a stable environment (maybe plant maintenance items). There may be items that you do not use MRP to determine needs (bulk tanks). All MRP strategies have strong points & weaknesses. I have made some broad statements with assumptions but it comes down to what works best in your environment. You may decide that different MRP types apply to different material types or groups. APICS offers a lot of information that might be useful.

The MRP type we currently use is PD, which takes into account demand from higher level assemblies, this is desirable. The negative is that is does not consider the reorder point to initiate a procurement proposal. The alternative is to use MRP type V2 which takes the reorder point in its calculation. However V2 does not consider demand from higher level components. Is there some way of combining the two desirable behaviours? To use the reorder point and consider demand from components higher up in the BOM? | | Reply to this email to post your response. __.____._ | _.____.__ |
