Re-arrange the columns the way you want, including width, and then click on the configuration icon on the right of the column headings. Name it, check "use as standard setting" and then "Create" and save it. It works, I do it all the time. Be careful making changes to it, you must click on "Create" each time even though it already exists. You will then get a warning about over-writing the existing "Variant". This functionality is in a lot of screens. For example, it makes CA03 a lot better.
