TechEd Season: Bangalore and Beyond
SAP TechEd 2011 Bangalore kicks off today with a keynote by Vishal Sikka. For weeks, tweeters have been active as energy builds with expectation of 10,000 attendees and a very full program.

In September, I had the good fortune to attend SAP TechEd Las Vegas. Since, many SCN bloggers have contributed their impressions and experiences. Don't miss reading SAP Mentor Matthias Steiner, who provides his unique perspective. Or find out how the SAP TechEd experience in Las Vegas helped Bala Prabahar become a Cool Dad.

Jon Reed writes, "For those outside SAP, TechEd has always been a bit impenetrable." He notes, "a continuing tension between SAP's commercial agendas and its fascinating ability to cultivate a grassroots community around its software."

But even for SCN insiders, the energy at SAP TechEd is beyond words. You can get a handle on it for free. Watch cool videos, Demo Jams, Keynotes, selected lectures, and other highlights at SAP TechEd Online: The Best of SAP TechEd 2011.

The SAP TechEd 2011 season. Continues with SAP TechEd Madrid (Nov. 8 - 10), followed by SAP TechEd Beijing (Nov. 15-17). I hope you have a chance to attend a live SAP TechEd and feel the energy!

Sincerely,

Keith Elliott
Editor-in-Chief

  1. The Full Disclosure SODIS, Email Disclosure Documents and ABAP

When Hagen Dittmer tried to implement email disclosure documents on external communications a problem arose with the emails generated from custom ABAP. In this blog, he describes the many ways to send emails in the SAP development world. Then take a look at Volker Wegert's blog ABAP Trapdoors: Type Lock-In, where he covers structural and design problems with regard to writing code in ABAP and demonstrates a class hierarchy. For more, see other ABAP blogs and articles on SCN.

  2. Living in the Layers

Enterprises must dissolve the layers of complexity that face them today. To do this, they can take advantage of hardware innovations to rethink the layers that sit inside their enterprises, using straightforward analytics, but also operational reporting as well as planning and forecasting, plus transactional and other forms of applications. Read more in this blog from Vishal Sikka, Member of the SAP Executive Board. Also check out his keynote from SAP TechEd 2011.

  3. PI/XI: Sender JDBC Adapter for Oracle Stored Procedures in Five Days

In this blog, Michal Krawczyk describes some workarounds for the standard sender JDBC adapter, which generally does not work well (or, rather, does not work at all) with Oracle stored procedures. One workaround, with functions, enables you to use something more then a simple select statement. Be sure to check out these blogs for more on Process Integration.

  4. Installing and Configuring SAP NetWeaver Gateway 2.0

In this how-to guide, you will learn the installation steps for SAP NetWeaver Gateway 2.0. You will also learn the step-by-step configuration procedures for your SAP NetWeaver Gateway to connect to an SAP backend.

  5. Cloud Computing's Greatest Danger – and Richest Opportunity

In this Forbes article, SAP Executive Board member Vishal Sikka discusses SAP's cloud computing strategy including the process of "simplifying renewal." Whether in the cloud or on-premise or some combination of the two — the strategy embraces the "power of and," transcending former, restrictive limitations.

  6. Enterprise Workspaces 1.1 Is Now Available for NetWeaver Portal 7.3

SAP NetWeaver Portal, enterprise workspaces 1.1 now supports SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.3. In this blog, Ifat Shwartz outlines the new release of enterprise workspaces, which focuses on easy reuse of existing content, extensive search capabilities, enhanced usability, and extensibility. The software is currently available for download on the SAP Service Market Place under SAP NW ENTERP.
