Hi guys,
The identification of materials whatever the category is easier when you have a process to deal with the specific materials you require to process or repair.
The easiest way of identifying material categories on SAP is by the selection criteria which is used to manage materials. I agreed with Siegfried, A separate valuation for each category of materials is the best way forward. Once your materials have a valuation and the characteristics have been set in the classification of the batches to allowing you to identify such materials, the rest is the simplest of tasks.

All, typically repairable items will have separate valuation, so in the
material master the indicator for separate valuation will need to be set,
and valuation types included for the separate values, New, Worn, and
Repaired are the three typical grouping with different valuation types.

In addition you can set up a Class and Characteristic to indicate whether
these should be repaired in-house or externally.

So between classification and valuation you can then determine all
in-house materials, Spare parts or Sales products, as being candidates for
repairable (Refurbishment Processing).
