What makes a great online community? To answer that, you need to take into account the purpose of the community and what the members get out of participating. As an active contributor in SCN, you'll find that regular participation can help boost your career and keep your job skills current.

In fact, a recent Fast Company article refers to "SCN as a B2B Social Media Juggernaut." As Chip Rodgers, Vice President and COO of SAP Community Network, points out with regard to SCN, not only are the numbers good (1.5 million unique visitors per month and up to 4,000 posts per day), but where other communities may have more members but feel like ghost towns, SCN has vibrancy.

"There is no doubt that you can get added value out of being an active SAP Community Member and engaging SAP on Social Media," said regular contributor Tom Cemens in a recent blog post. But how do you measure the value and balance your time on social media? One way is to focus on what you can contribute and how often.

Did you realize the @SAPCommNet Twitter page now has a "Social Media & Social Networks" blog category http://ht.ly/5ZkeP with lots of great #SAP blogs? Check it out, then learn how to get started and best manage your time on social media.

Sincerely,

Talila Baron

  1. How to Get the Most Out of ABAP and Java in the Context of SAP Technology

Is ABAP better than Java? Or is Java better than ABAP? This first article in a two-part series shows you that it isn't a question of which development language is better; the choice depends on the situation, and sometimes the answer is both ABAP and Java. Read this SAPinsider article for more details, then see the custom development page.

  2. Updates on the SAP HANA Roadmap and Overall In-Memory Strategy

Uddhav Gupta and Tom Kurtz provide a 60-minute overview on the latest and greatest in the SAP in-memory computing world, including how SAP HANA appliance software has helped numerous customers solve critical business problems.   4. SAP Drinks Its Own Champagne When It Comes to SCN Reporting

In this new blog, Ramakrishnan Parthasarathy looks at SCN's migration to Jive 5.0. He discusses using SAP BO Xcelsius, SAP BO Crystal Reports, SAP BO Explorer and SAP HANA to get data faster. He also covers the possible challenges, from a reporting standpoint, involved when moving from one platform to another.

  5. Displaying Internal Tables in the Debugger in NetWeaver 7.0 EHP2

The New ABAP Debugger, introduced with NetWeaver 2004s, came with a table tool for displaying the contents of internal tables. With NetWeaver 7.0 EHP2 and with NetWeaver 7.30, the table tool has been expanded to make it easier to use. In this blog, Stephen Pfeiffer discusses the details.
