You will archive the material number to have the issue through Transaction code :MM71.
(when you make variant, you will have to put parameter only for the issue data.)
After executing MM71, and then if the data was rightly archived, the material number can be completely deleted in your SAP system.
At that time, you will be able to create the material master by same number again.
Of course, you will have right Industry Sector at that time.

MMZ2 is nothing but old MM02 and is used mostly incase of BDC's.
