Terry nailed it. I discovered the answer shortly after posting the message yesterday ... the field entitled Batch in MB1C is another of the infamous "multi-purpose" fields SAP likes. In my case, I just needed to use field CHARG for entering the Valuation Type.

I've come up with a minor roadblock that I hope someone can clear for me. I have loaded the global data for Material Masters (Basic Data 1&2, Classification & Purchasing). Then I have enabled Split Valuation for those MM record, per plant. Then I extended the MM records to the plants and SLOCs per Valuation Type (new, used, uninspected, etc). Now that it is time for me to load the beginning inventory balances, I'm stuck ... TCode MB1C doesn't have any provision (that I can see) to stipulate which Valuation Type I am trying to load quantities to. Is there another TCode I should be using?
