Hi Pete,
SAP does not have any such ''generic'' material master concept unfortunately. If purchasing is after-the-fact, then I would suggest to go with blanket order instead of PO with generic material ID as in this particular case you don't necessarily need to carry out GR.

hi folks,
working on conversion of client from "nothing" to ECC 6.0 ... looking after data conversion of PM and P2P.
Client is wanting to solve some issues via generic material masters.
Historically, purchasing is an after-thought ... PO's are created to pay for stuff already ordered and received ... so the "need" for generic MMs is to resolve the issue of invoices received without PO's for the short term.
No experience with generic Material Masters in SAP -- are they available outside of retail? If so, can someone provide some detail?
