Putting on my hat as Mr. Taxonomy ... I have never placed a lot of weight on making it easy for a user to create "codes" (MMs) I've spent too much of my life cleaning up the mess left behind by those who create new materials without validating and verifying. Before leaving my last (28+ years) employer, I was charged with a Six Sigma project of cleaning up 2.5 MILLION SKUs, getting rid of the duplicates and locking down the system. Went from 176 people with their fingers in the "coding" pie, to 16 people managing the entire thing.

So my recommendation will differ a bit from the others. Rather than making it simple/easy ... look towards training the folks allowed to create MM's (hopefully a VERY select group)

or ... after I'm finished this assignment, I'll be happy to come in and clean up the mess for big bucks ;-)
